This accommodation is available for postgraduate conditional and unconditional offer holders and current students only.  Applications to live in Duchy House is direct to The Courtauld.  The application portal for 2024/25 is now open and will close on 19 May 2024.

Location

Duchy House, is located approximately 100 metres from Somerset House, on the corner of the Strand and Lancaster Place.  The accommodation is approximately 25-to-30 minutes’ walk to Vernon Square. Duchy House offers 63 single occupancy rooms across four floors with six different room types, see summary table below.

Duchy House offers easy access to the attractions of Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Oxford Street, West End Theatres, and being just off Waterloo Bridge you have instant access to the Southbank. Cinemas, clubs, music venues are all very close by. Galleries, (of course!) are in close vicinity to Duchy House, with The National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery just down the Strand, Tate Modern on the South Bank and The Courtauld Gallery.

Due to planned maintenance work we are scheduling to carry out in the premise in late August / early September 2024, we will not be able to accommodate arrivals into the accommodation prior to 11:00 hours on Saturday 14 September 2024.

The key features of Duchy House

Note: Duchy House is open to applications from postgraduate conditional and unconditional offer holders and current BA1, BA2 and continuing MA Courtauld students.  Based on current semester and submission dates for 2024/25, (which as of January 2024 are pending final approval) we will be offering both undergraduate and postgraduate students 38-week contract.  The option to extend contracts for part or all of the summer period i.e. from June through to early September 2025, is available upon request.

  • All rooms are singular occupied, there is no sharing (this includes those rooms with double beds).
  • All rooms are furnished with either a small double or single bed, bedside cabinet, study desk, wardrobe, bookshelf, desk lamp, mini fridge.
  • Free Wi-Fi.
  • A communal kitchen on each floor is provided with induction hobs, air-fryer, microwaves, toaster and kettles including a couple of under counter fridges where spare permits.  In addition, a supply of pots and pans, cooking utensils and supply of crockery is provided.
  • A common room on the second and third floors.
  • Free to use on-site laundry facilities with comprising five domestic washing and drying machines.
  • Daily cleaning service of common areas. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and ensuites. Vacuum cleaners are supplied on each floor.  The cleaning of ensuites can be provided for at an additional cost by agreement.
  • Entry to the building and each floor is via use of your personal ID/Access card, with entry to rooms via suite key.
  • The external entrance, internal lobby and staircase landings have 24-hour monitored CCTV.
  • The tariff rate is inclusive of room and utilities (water, gas, electricity, wi-fi).
  • If you have any specific wellbeing and or disabilities that we should be aware of please inform us during the application process.
  • Licence Agreements for 2024/25 will be for 38-weeks or longer by agreement.
