Excavated Mutilations: New Work by Conrad Atkinson
25 October 2002 - 19 January 2003
Conrad Atkinson, Foot Wound,
2002
In his first exhibition in London for ten
years, the internationally acclaimed artist Conrad Atkinson produced
a series of works made in response to paintings and sculpture
in the Courtauld Gallery collections. Responding to recurrent
images of violence in the Courtauld collections, from Fra Angelicos Imago
Pietatis to
Vincent Van Goghs Self-Portrait with Bandaged
Ear, Atkinson
used embroidery, ceramics and painting to explore
the relationship between the historic and the contemporary.
