British watercolours from the Scharf bequest
30 October 2008 – 25 January 2009
This was the first public display of a selection of outstanding British watercolours, bequeathed to The Courtauld in 2007. It offered visitors the chance to see Turner’s work in the broader context of British 18th- and 19th-century watercolour painting. Dating from the period 1750 to 1850, the so-called ‘Golden Age’ of British watercolours, the display included works by Constable, Gainsborough, Towne, Cozens and Bonington.
