British and French printmaking 1600 - 1900
14 May - 20 July 2014
This display celebrates the completion of a print cataloguing project funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
The prints came to the Gallery from The Courtauld Institute of Art’s Witt Library —
an extensive pictorial record of European paintings and drawings collected by Courtauld benefactor Sir Robert Witt (1872-1952) for reference purposes, with additional material from the H.J. Cornish collection.
From religious imagery to caricature, the variety of subject matter and techniques seen in this selection of British and French works reveals the richness and diversity of the Witt Library print collection.
