Issue 20 : Autumn 2005

The Courtauld relies on the vision and enthusiasm of individuals to enable
many of its activities to take place, and the recent Gabriele Münter
exhibition was no exception. The Courtauld approached His Excellency Mr
Thomas Matussek (Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany) for his
support and were honoured when he agreed to become the Patron of the exhibition
and to support the fundraising. Under the Ambassador’s patronage,
a group of committed individuals with a personal interest in Gabriele
Münter’s work, gathered together and made contributions totalling
£50,000 which made the exhibition possible. Following the private
view, donors gathered with the Ambassador as guest of honour to celebrate.
The exhibition has been very well received by the press and public alike
and the Courtauld is enormously grateful that these important donations
made it possible.
