An Entertainment of Words and Music
Inspired by the Grand Tour of Thomas Jones
Thursday 16 June, 5.30pm

Thomas Jones was one of the most original of all landscape artists. He has become famous for the views of the rooftops of Naples and Rome, drawn through the windows of his apartments on his grand tour. On that tour he recorded mundane details of daily life and the people he met, artists and patrons, composers and musicians. He frequented the opera. This entertainment of the songs he enjoyed on his grand tour from Wales to Italy and back, will be accompanied by an illustrated narrative including examples of his finest works.

The performance will be given by:

Robin Simon
Editor of the 'British Art Journal’ who has produced numerous entertainments uniting art and music. He performed Pencerrig to Pozzuoli with Alison Pierce at the Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts 2003.

Alison Pierce
Soprano Soloist who has sung with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the English National Opera. She is a Professor in the vocal department of the Royal Academy of Music.

Paul Wynne Griffiths,
Accompanist and Conductor who has conducted many leading orchestras in the UK and abroad and is a present engaged at the Royal Opera House,
Covent Garden

*A percentage of the proceeds from Pencerrig to Pozzuoli will be donated to the Caroline Villers Research Fellowship
