awards and appointments
Elizabeth Bard, MA 2001, is currently working as a journalist and art
historian in Paris, where she blogs for the Huffington Post.
Sophie Berrebi, MA 1995, PhD 2003, was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship
from the Getty Foundation from Aug 2006-Aug 2007.
Fay Brauer, MA 1982, PhD 1997, was the guest speaker for ‘Journeys
into Madness: Representing Mental Illness in the Arts and Sciences’,
at the Wellcome Trust, 11-12 October 2007, giving a presentation entitled “Hysterical
Men and Republic Manhood: Chariot, Art and the ‘Outing’ of
male Hysteria“.
Sarah Burnett, MA 2006, was awarded the Warwick Postgraduate Research
Fellowship for her PhD, and the Rome Award to study at the British School
in Rome.
Danielle Carrabino, MA 2003, was appointed a Curatorial Research Assistant
at the Fogg Art Museum in the Department of Paintings, Sculpture and
Decorative Arts in 2007.
Nigel Carringon, PGDip 2007, was appointed Rector of University of the
Arts, London, in January 2008, and will commence the position in August.
Heather L Caven, BA 1998, was promoted to Collections, Documentation
and Development Manager of the National Maritime Museum in November 2007.
David Chandler, MA 1978, was appointed Head of Media at Aquinas Sixth
Form College in Stockport.
Benjamin Chapman, BA 2007, has started an arts space called Take Courage
Gallery.
Anne J d’Harnoncourt, MA 1967, has been given the “Aztec
Eagle” award from the government of Mexico, November 2007. She
is also pleased to announce that the Philadelphia Museum of Art opened
to the public a large extension in the art deco Perelman Building in
September 2007.
Donato Esposito, MA 1999, has been appointed Research Assistant to work
on a forthcoming exhibition of Joshua Reynolds for Plymouth Museum of
Art Gallery for 2009-2010. The post, funded by the Paul Mellon Centre,
will uncover Reynolds’ collection of prints and drawings, which
number in the thousands.
Dorinda Evans, PhD 1972, has been appointed Professor Emerita upon retirement
from Emory University. In September 2007, she became a Senior Postdoctoral
Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution, residing at the National Portrait
Gallery.
Jessica Feather, MA 2000, was awarded a Paul Mellon Publication Grant
towards the Catalogue Raisonée of the British Drawings and Watercolours
in the Lady Lever Art Gallery, to be published in 2008.
Kaywin Feldman, MA 1991, was appointed Director and President of the
Minneapolis Institute of Art, beginning 1 January 2008.
Alan Fern was awarded Chevalier, Ordre de la Couronne of Belgium Chevalier,
Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France Commander, Royal Order of The
Polar Star of Sweden.
Katya Garcia-Anton, PG Dip 1992, MA 1993, is a curator and the Director
of Geneva’s Centre d’Art Contemporain.
Caroline Georgiadis, MA 1996, left Christie’s Auctioneers in May
2007, where she had been Head of Sale for British Pictures 1500-1850,
to establish an art advisory service, Caroline Georgiadis Fine Art.
Amelia C Ginsberg, BA 2006, is working towards her MA in the History
of Art at University College London.
Cecily Hennessy, PhD 2001, was appointed Lecturer at Christie’s
Education, London, in September 2007.
Maurice Howard, MA 1972, PhD 1985, was appointed Director of the Society
of Antiquaries of London in 2007.
Deirdre Jackson, PhD 2002, was appointed Project Officer of the Catalogue
of Illuminated Manuscripts at the British Library in September 2007.
Chloe E Johnson, BA 1996, MA 1997, received a secondment to the Senior
Curatorial position at Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum (maternity
leave cover) in October 2007.
Joanne L Kleinberg, MA 2003, was appointed Assistant Curator at The Drawing
Center in New York in September 2007.
Michael Liversidge, BA 1969, was appointed Emeritus Dean of Arts, University
of Bristol, on retirement in January 2007. He was also appointed a Governor
of the British Institute of Florence in November 2007.
Knut Ljogodt was appointed Director of the Art Museum of Northern Norway,
Tromso, effective 1 February 2008.
Matthew McLendon, MA 2001, PhD 2004, was appointed Curator of Academic
Initiatives at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum, Rollins Coolege, in August
2007.
Cara Montgomery, MA 1975, is presently professionally retraining as a
councellor 7 therapist in an MSW program in Florida at Barry University.
Fiona Moorhead, BA1995, MA1996, was appointed Communications Manager
at the Crafts Council in 2007.
Nicholas Penny, MA 1973, PhD 1975, was appointed Director of the National
Gallery, London, in 2007.
Britt M Salvesen, PgDip 1990, MA 1991, was named Interim Director of
the Center for Creative Photography, University of Arizona, in June 2007.
Christina Shearman, MA 1999, was appointed Director of the Yvon Lambert
Gallery, New York, in 2007.
Richard Verdi, was awarded an OBE in 2007.
Helen Wewiora, MA 2002, was appointed Visual Arts Officer for the Arts
Council (NorthWest) in 2007.
Alan Windsor, BA 1969, is exhibiting his latest abstract paintings and
etchings at the New Ashgate Gallery, Surrey, in May 2008.
Ari Wiseman, MA 1998, was promoted to Deputy Directory of the Museum
of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, in October 2007.
Christopher J Wilson, BA 1969, PhD 1980, has been involved in the rehanging
of the Bowes Museum Barnard Castle Picture Collection in 2007-2008.
