Occasional Writings by Michael Kitson
This collection of writings by Professor
Michael Kitson has been selected from many articles commissioned by magazines
such as The Listener, The Statesman, Times Literary
Supplement, and newspapers such as The Times, and The
Guardian, by Dr John Gage, a former pupil of Kitson’s. He
has written a substantial introduction stressing the clarity and wide
appeal of Kitson’s style, and Neil MacGregor has contributed a
Foreword.
These articles discuss English, French, Dutch and Italian artists, and
address subjects such as ‘Ruskin and English taste’. Artists
Kitson discusses include: Dutch – Hals, Rembrandt; English – Constable,
Hogarth, Turner; French – Claude; Italian – Bellini, Caravaggio,
Salvator Rosa.
This publication will be available during The Courtauld 75th Anniversary
Weekend of 4-6 July, where there will be books on sale for £25.
