Analysis of two late thirteenth-century images of the Wedding at Cana – in the Upper Church of S. Francesco at Assisi, and in the manuscript of the Supplicationes variae (Florence, Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana, MS Plut 25.3) – forms the heart of this lecture.
Discussion of these paintings' iconography and audience leads to a consideration of Franciscan images as tools of pastoral care.
