Project coordinated by Dr Alexandra Gerstein at the Courtauld Gallery in Somerset House from June to August 2010.

The Display

Although the Courtauld Gallery is famous for its collection of paintings, its decorative arts collection is less well-known. This project was designed to display a selection of rarely seen objects, with two themes selected for cabinets in Room 5 of the Gallery.

Most of the objects form part of the Courtauld’s Gambier-Parry Bequest, with a few objects coming from other acquisitions of the Gallery.  The themes of the cases are ‘Portraits in the Everyday’ and ‘Real and Imagined Nature’.
