The Friends of The Courtauld is a membership charity which has played an important role in the life and work of The Courtauld for over 40 years. There are currently over 1,700 members (including Samuel Courtauld Society members and Friends), who share a passion for art history and generously support a wide range of activities at The Courtauld.



The Friends’ Annual Grant

Each year the Friends make a significant grant from membership donations, gift aid and investments to The Courtauld. In the current academic and financial year (1 August 2013- 31 July 2014) the Friends charity is allocating a significant £190,000 in order to support a diverse range of projects including:



  • The Court and Craft: a Masterpiece from Northern Iraq exhibition


  • Eight post-graduate scholarships supporting talented art historians and conservators


  • Martin Caiger-Smith’s post as Head of the MA Programme in Curating the Art Museum


  • Public gallery talks by postgraduate students given on Sunday afternoons


  • New books for students
