Courtauld Connects

White architect's model of Somerset House.

Following the successful completion of Phase 1 of our transformation project Courtauld Connects and the reopening of the acclaimed Courtauld Gallery in 2021, along with our new Linbury Conservation Centre, Leon Kossoff Learning Centre and accessible public facilities including shop and café, our journey to realise our vision continues, with ambitious plans to renovate the entire East Wing and basements of Somerset House North Block.

Courtauld Connects Phase 2 – expected to cost c.£45m – will create inspiring spaces for teaching, research, student support and well-being, and our wider community. From 2023-2026, we will completely transform our East Wing and Library, creating inspiring facilities to attract and engage the best and brightest minds, creating the next generation of leaders in the arts, heritage and cultural sectors. We will create an outward-facing, inclusive learning complex for the academic and student community where wider public audiences may also engage with all we do through our programming of events, lectures and short courses, access to our Library collections, and digital resources. By opening these facilities and activities for everyone to explore and learn about art history, our impact and reach and that of art history itself will continue to expand.

Transformation of the following key spaces within the East Wing and basement includes:

  • Complete renovation and transformation of our Library
  • A new Student Hub with well-being facilities
  • A new meeting space for academics – Courtauld Living Room
  • A new home for our Research Forum
  • A transformed Lecture Theatre and 10 fully refurbished seminar rooms

Central to The Courtauld’s success in the future is its ability to remain relevant and continue to attract the best and brightest students and academics. Thank you for considering supporting this important aspect of The Courtauld.
