The end of the 16th century saw a flowering of music in Italy, with Florence and Venice European leaders of innovation. In preparation for the opening of Boticelli and Treasures from the Hamilton Collection, explore the sound worlds of these cities during the late 16th century and 17th century in a recital of secular songs by Giovanni Caccini, Alessandro Piccinini and Barbara Strozzi, set against a British context with songs by John Dowland, performed by Guildhall School of Music and Drama students, Mark Bonney (tenor) and Toby Carr (lute and theorbo).
